To contribute to our collective recovery in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle in New Zealand/Aotearoa artist Emma Bass has created a stunning new limited edition print, Antifragile. Composed from the flowers of the hardy Pohutukawa, a metaphor for resilience, this striking and beautiful work will raise funds for cyclone recovery efforts: ALL proceeds from each sale are to be donated to the Red Cross Disaster Fund.

‘Antifragile’ is a concept referring to a property of systems that not only withstand stress and volatility, but are actually built to thrive and become stronger in response to it.

Scientific research supports the fact that flowers can provide physiological and psychological advantages such as stress reduction, improved well-being and the colour of the flower makes a further impact. Red is psychologically associated with strength and power, while yellow engenders feelings of hope and optimism. Here the delicate beauty of our iconic native flora Pōhutukawa (including the rare yellow variety), combine to host the life cycle of the Monarch from chrysalis to butterfly, demonstrating that lives may be radically altered, but we will always find a way to persist and even thrive in the face of adversity.
